In Character Information

character name: Narcissa Malfoy
fandom: Harry Potter
timeline: Post Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, about a week after the Battle of Hogwarts
character's age: 42

powers, skills, pets and equipment:

Narcissa is a witch, and is very well versed in magic and sorcery. This means she has the ability to perform charms and curses, a vast variety of counter-curses, offensive and defensive spell, as well as potion-making, and a large assortment of other things related to the wizarding world.

Explaining all of it would take an insanely large amount of time, so here’s a link:

More about magic in the world of Harry Potter here: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Magic

As for Narcissa’s magical strengths, she is an incredibly skilled at apparition, and is able to teleport to very specific places and make very little sound while doing so. She is also very skilled at dueling, as she takes on both Harry Potter and Ron Weasley simultaneously, as well as defend against her sister, Bellatrix’s, spells. It is also likely that she is very skilled at Occlumency, which is the ability to protect one’s mind, seeing as she lies to Voldemort and succeeds, even though the Dark Lord is supposed the most skilled Legilimens of his generation.

It’s also likely that, although she never became a Death Eater, that she’s versed in the Dark Arts, given her family history and connections. She is also referred to as a Dark Witch by her former house-elf.

Her wand was destroyed during the last book, so she will need one in order to perform any magic beyond the very simple. Hopefully it will turn up someday, however. :3

personality:

Narcissa Malfoy is what you would expect of most Slytherin Pureblood witches; she considers herself of higher status than most, which is bolstered by her and her hubsand’s familial wealth. She is egotistical, arrogant and prideful, and believes that the wizarding community is going down the wrong path by allowing of magic users to become so diluted and to permit those without magical blood into schools. She looks down on those who she believes to be beneath her, and although she tends to keep such opinions quiet in order to keep from causing conflict that might harm her family, she generally carries around an aura of superiority that she believes is true.

However, that is not the heart of Narcissa’s personality. It is the core of her beliefs, and she was raised to think it to be true, but it is not what drives her. What matters most to Narcissa is family, and that is why she adopted all of these beliefs. Family is what matters, what must be protected, and that is what has shaped her completely into the woman she has become.

There is no one more important in her life than Draco, her son and only child. He is her world, and any misery that befalls him causes her more pain than anything else in the world. When he is in danger, she becomes unstable and hysterical, and nothing else matters but making sure that he is alright. She would never stoop to threats and violence unless it is to protect her son, and when she comes to his defense she is like a lioness protecting her cub.

Her husband is the other part of her life that she cannot live without. She has been with him through thick and thin, stood by him at his highest moment and when it all came crashing down. This is proof that it is not fame and fortune she desire, but family at all costs. Lucius and Draco are the only ones that can truly commandeer her loyalty above all else; she will betray anyone other than them in a heartbeat if it means their safety.

That does not mean that she would do so without reason; Narcissa does not have the stomach for such things, which is one of the main reasons she never became a Death Eater.

The downfall of her family and the defeat of Voldemort has also started to change her. Her betrayal of the Dark Lord saved her and her family from Azkaban sentences, and the entire ordeal of the second wizarding war has started to change her perspectives on others. Draco would have died, or worse, had it not been for Harry Potter, and that’s something she would have never expected. The very people that she despised and looked down upon are now those in power, and though she is having difficulty coming to terms with such things, there is nothing she can do except change.

After all, it is love that helped her family survive when they should have, by all rights, been destroyed.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?

Scorched’s setting is not so different from her canon, full of magical creatures, spells and sorcery, and plenty of danger. She is fully capable of defending herself (though she will need to obtain a wand), and has a very strong will. She may not get along with everyone (that’s an understatement), but she is also capable of love and goodness, and will most certainly have something to offer the other Scorched.

Third Person Sample:

Narcissa’s feelings on this place were conflicted. It was a complicated situation, one that she felt couldn’t be understood by most of Anatole’s inhabitants. She and her family had been torn from their home, that might they could sympathize on, but the witch couldn’t decide whether she was outraged or grateful.

One the one hand, she could continue to practice here. Draco would continue to learn under Severus Snape’s tutelage, as well as her own and Lucius’. They were free of He Who Must Not Be Named forever, as well as the tarnish and blasphemy he’d left behind on their family’s name. Few could judge them for their actions, having not been there. And those that did, well, they seemed to be content to leave them be.

And yet, this wasn’t their home. They were surrounded by what were no better than Muggles, who wanted their questions answered about who they were and what they were capable of. Their mansion, the home that Draco had grown up in, was in another world entirely. There was no good way for them to replace their wands; as capable as Severus was, wand making was most definitely not his specialty.

And yet, in the end, Narcissa’s feelings on the subject always seemed to lean toward the former. Her family was here and whole. They could heal from the wounds that the Dark Lord had left behind, without the constant persecution that had followed in the days after the war’s end. Even if they couldn’t be broken, it would no doubt have hurt to watch.

Here, perhaps they could move on. Because no matter where they were, so long as they were together, they would survive.

Anything else? NADA!
